  Alma Retreat Week

Kate has been an enthusiastic yoga practitioner for over a decade and currently teaches in NYC. After years of dedicated practice, she considers yoga to be a way in which she moves through life. Kate has taught and assisted in over 20 yoga teacher trainings and has received over 800 hours of yoga training as well as 2 intensive years studying Buddhist meditation and participating in multiple Vipassana meditation retreats.

Permaculture Design Course

 January 18th  - February 2nd – 2014

Christian ShearerJoin us for a certified 16-day Permaculture Design Course (PDC) taught by Christian Shearer. Christian is the founder and current Managing Director of the Panya Project (www.panyaproject.org), a permaculture, natural building and sustainable living education center in Northern Thailand.

Christian is also lead designer and educator for Terra Genesis International (www.terra- genesis.com), an international Permaculture Consulting Firm. Christian sits on the advisory board for WeForest (www.weforest.org), and is working to help them with their goal to plant 20 million square kilometers of forest.

The course will consist of a broad range of topics applicable to life anywhere on this planet, yet will be tailored to the needs of the students present as well as the location at hand. Participants will help to co-create the design of tropical food forests, permaculture-style gardens, natural buildings, water catchment and irrigation systems, work with swales and dams, as well as take part in permaculture activities on the hosting land.

The course will be conducted in the internationally accepted manner. The 72 hours of course work required to receive a Permaculture Design Certificate will be covered over a two week period, mixing hands-on with plenty of in classroom studies.

Kevin began studying and practicing  yoga in 2000, and has been certified with the Yoga Alliance since 2005. On the mat, Kevin discovered consistency, mindfulness and dedication as key elements to acceptance and transformation. In his teaching, he weaves alignment cues and philosophy into the framework of movement, to bring to light that which is good and true within us all.

The purpose of this Yoga Teacher Training program is to provide a supportive environment in which students begin to connect with their inner teacher, internal wisdom and authentic voice.

Through pranayama, asana practice, mind-body journaling, group conversations, reading and guided meditation, students will practice the essential process of conscious listening to their own higher self. The Yoga Teacher Training is designed to provide participants with a solid foundation of knowledge and information with which they can confidently and effectively facilitate an Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga class for beginner students.
